FF, FG, Labour, ex-PDs, and other shades of establishement opinion are putting themselves forward as 'independents' in the upcoming election to Seanad Éireann. The mask of 'disability campaigner' or 'human rights advocate' is unfortunately the last refuge of some of them. This is most obvious on the university constituencies. TCD Animal Rights is hosting a talk and debate with the Irish Anti-Vivisection Society and guest speaker Dr Dan Lyons , of Uncaged campaigns .
The title of the talk will be " How can we tackle cruelty to animals in a human-supremacist world ?" It is open to the public as well as to college students and staff , and there will be time for questions and discussion following the lecture .
It will begin at 7.30pm on Wednesday 9th March in the Jonathan Swift Theatre at Trinity College Dublin . read full story / add a comment

GREYHOUND ACTION IRELAND is sickened and appalled that the Irish Greyhound board, Bord na gCon has planned to send Irish greyhounds to China to expand Greyhound Racing in Asia.
Already much criticized for their overbreeding of Greyhound dogs and for their total disregard for the welfare of ex-racing dogs here in Ireland, this latest move is shamefull .

SIPTU, the union for Boots workers here, called together workers from across the stores to listen to the concerns of their membership and to work together on a coherent plan for the year ahead. The Iranian regime has sentenced Houtan Kian, (the lawyer of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani), to death by hanging. Houtan Kian was arrested in October 2010 along with Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s son, and two German journalists during an interview. The other three have been released, Houtan Kian faces imminent execution. Moreover Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s death sentence has been confirmed. Upon hearing the news, it is reported that Sakineh attempted suicide but survived. read full story / add a comment
