The SIPTU Boots organising committee met recently (Tues 23rd Nov) to access the progress that they have made over this past year, noting the surge in SIPTU membership and the huge interest in union activity amongst Boots workers. They also identified key issues of importance to workers and developed an effective plan for the year ahead. SIPTU have hundreds of members in Boots stores across the north who are proactively campaigning in support of 'Dignity and Respect in the Workplace.' read full story / add a comment

Political parties are not mentioned in the Constitution. A new campaign is currently being launched, with the aim of giving people a real alternative to the Fine Gael/Labour coalition that is on the cards - and returning true democracy to Ireland. The public are urged to come to a meeting in the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin, tonight (Thursday), and tomorrow night, at 8.00pm. read full story / add a comment

The 1% Network has called on all workers to attend the march organised by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on Saturday morning next to “show their opposition to the anti-people policies of the Irish government, the European Central Bank and the IMF”. “It’s important that Saturday’s march is a large showing of public anger at the economic policies currently being implemented,” said Brian Leeson 1% Network spokesperson, “but we know that ICTU will not lead a real fightback.” read full story / add a comment

At the Dáil Social Protection Committee today Community Employment (CE) workers from the “Your Right – Your Fight” campaign welcomed Minister O’Cuiv’s statement that proposed welfare cuts to One Parent Families and People with Disabilities on CE were not being considered in the forthcoming budget. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday 23/11/10, Concerned Families Against Drugs was handed a substantial quantity of Cocaine and a dozen or so cultivated Cannabis plants (see photos) by a number of local people in the Ardoyne area. Also taken was other equipment used in the supply of illegal drugs. read full story / add a comment

Leading Human Rights barrister, Michael Mansfield QC, considers the conduct of CRH plc and other corporation’s activities in occupied Palestine to be morally reprehensible and exposes them to legal liability for these violations.
