Sinn Féin to hold urgent discussions on Racist Attacks

South Belfast Sinn Féin Assembly member Alex Maskey along with party colleague Stiofan Long will hold urgent discussions with representatives of the ethnic minority communities in Belfast tomorrow to discuss ongoing racist attacks. The meeting will take place with the Multi Cultural Resource Centre, 9 Lower Crescent, Belfast at 1pm.

Speaking today Mr Maskey said:

" Those of us in political leadership have a duty to stand with ethnic minority communities in the face of what is an ongoing campaign being waged by loyalist gangs against them.

" Tomorrow's meeting is part of an ongoing engagement between Sinn Féin and the representatives of the ethnic minority communities. We will be listening to their concerns and together trying to work out practical steps to bring about an end to the current campaign of racist attacks, particularly in South Belfast." read full story / add a comment

“The statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Brian Cowen, in which he welcomed the announcement by President George Bush that his government was planning to regularise the position of undocumented foreign workers in the United States will strike many as an act of extraordinary hypocrisy given the Fianna Fail/PD government’s treatment of foreign workers who find themselves in a similar position in this country. read full story / add a comment
