Always the bridesmaid...

A bit of rain didn't stop thousands from taking to the streets of Dublin to celebrate what is now a fixture in the Irish calendar and to campaign for Marraige Equality for same sex relationships. This year saw the 25th anniversary and homage was paid to the years of campaigning and how far Irish society has come. However there was a recognition that not all was won and the struggle for full equality still goes on.

The Department of Education withdraws funding from Integrate Ireland Language and Training.

In in protest 500* staff and students at the Integrate Ireland Language and Training Centre (IILT) in Dublin marched from Liberty Hall to the Department of Education offices in Marlboro Street at 1.00 pm on Friday, June 20, 2008. It was also World Refugee Day and the proposed closure truly demonstrates Government policy towards integration, education and workers rights.

Below is a rundown on a Shell to Sea case heard last week, and a brief update on some of the latest happenings.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the case against 4 Shell to Sea protestors was heard at Belmullet and Ballycroy District Court. Its worth nothing Wednesday was the one year anniversary of the Pollathomais Pier incident, when gardaí forced their way onto the pier through a crowd with the help of a JCB in order to place a security hut, against the wishes of the landowner

Since George W came to Belfast last time (03) over one million Iraqis, mostly women and children (Lancet Report) have been slain. Most of the U.S. troops doing the slaying have passed through Shannon Airport, Ireland, to get to their victims.. 4,000 of their number have returned in body bags, 20,000 with serious injuries (amputations, loss of sanity etc) they will never recover from and another 20,000 evacuated with injuries they should recover from. Thousands of veterans have suicided on return..
