A World Airways DC-10 plane carrying US military cargo to Kuwait was grounded Thursday, 14th February at Shannon and is still there. The cargo jet was scheduled to make a refuelling stop at Shannon anyway but had to make an emergency landing. Officially the department of foreign affairs must be asked for permission before someone can fly here with weapons aboard. Today they said that they still haven't received any such request regarding this flight. What could they be transporting to Kuwait? How can we find out? ... read full story / add a comment

This happened while I was away at Sellafield but I came across the articles upon my return. A DC-10-30 landed at Shannon and 15 emergency vehicles went to meet it. There were armed personnel at the plane when the fire tenders got there. No one will say what the cargo was. People, we really have to speak out on this. If Shannon is a duty-free rest stop for troops en route to bomb third world peasants then we are all complicit in the War Crimes of the Bush Regime. Around 300 people marched through the centre of Dublin on Saturday to mark the 10th anniversary of the 'X' case and to support a No vote in the latest anti-abortion referendum. 10 years earlier in 1992 the courts placed an injunction of a 14-year-old rape victim in order to prevent her travelling to England for an abortion. At the time not only was abortion illegal in Ireland but many activists had been prosecuted simply for providing the phone number of British clinics to pregnant women.
