No imagination left upstairs. ... read full story / add a comment

During a diplomatic junket to Italy last month, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien joked to reporters that the mountain resort he selected as ground zero for next week's G8 Summit is guarded "from the back by mountains, from the front by a river, from the south by an Indian village and from the north by 500 bears." Chretien was exaggerating the enclave's fortifications. But not by much. ... read full story / add a comment

An Irish protester arrested in genoa detailed at length how while in Bolsaneto Prison - unidentified persons gazed at a screen detailing his recent credit card purchases which included his recent book purchases. He was also retina scanned for his troubles. He was tortured pretty extensively and then released without charge after signing numerous 'unknown documents in Italian' He detailed this incident in a letter to Minister Cowen and as far as I know recieved no reply. Put this together with the below and all that time you spend educating yourself takes on a worrying hue. Laws that have similarities to the Patriot act have been introduced - or are in the process of being introduced through the european union.
