Around 300 workers and students took part in the 10 minute work stoppage against the war in University College Dublin at Mid-day. As this is outside of term time (so not many students are around) this was a reasonable turnout. Speakers included a couple of academics, the president of the SIPTU UCD section and the incoming Students Union president. At the end a small group left the campus to march into town. ... read full story / add a comment

By Amos Harel, Aluf Benn, Nathan Guttman and Moti Bassok, Haaretz Correspondents U.S. messages passed to Israel early Thursday indicate that American forces are apparently already operating in western Iraq in an effort to head off possible Iraqi Scud missile attacks against Israel. The Bush administration, keen to avert Israeli involvement in the conflict in order to safeguard its fragile coalition, prevent escalation and limit pro-Iraqi identification in the Arab world, has pledged to forestall a repetition of 1991 Gulf war attacks, in which Iraq fired 39 Scud missiles at the Jewish state. ... read full story / add a comment

Its now 10 hours since ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ was launched. Tomahawk cruise missles fired from stealth bombers rain down on innocents in Baghdad. Our so-called leaders are currently massed in the capital, defending the use of our territory in the bombing of another nation. We are no longer observers. The blood is on our hands. This illegal, immoral & indefensible war has finally begun. Today is Day X. ... read full story / add a comment

Anti-war activists transformed the railway bridge over Strand Road in Dublin last night so it carried an anti-war message. Cut up corriboards were used to create the message 'No US Terror' and these were staple gunned to the bridge. Reported on RTE News yesterday, Bertie Ahern, defended the Irish government's decision to allow US military flights still overfly and refuel here. I want to briefly dispell some of the myths he is relying on to win support from the parliament (Dail Eireann) later today.
