No British Withdrawal? No Royal Visits!
Dublin City Council will finally debate a motion opposing a state visit by the British head of state, aka the 'British Queen', on Monday, September 20th. The motion, which has been submitted by éirígí Councillor Louise Minihan, reads
“That this council notes with deep concern the proposal for a state visit to the Twenty Six Counties by the British head of state. Such a visit would be entirely inappropriate whilst the British state continues to implement imperialist policies and commit human rights abuses across the world, most notably in Afghanistan, Iraq and here in Ireland. This council calls on the Dublin government to abandon its plans to invite the British head of state to Ireland and on behalf of the proud citizens of this city we declare that Elizabeth Windsor is not welcome in Dublin.”
Now is the time to build oppostion to a British royal visit. There is no point waiting until Elizabeth Windsor arrives in Dublin. If you are opposed to imperialism; if you oppose the occupation of Ireland; if you oppose the occupation of Iraq; if you opppose the occupation of Afghanistan now is the time to make your voice heard. Together we can make Fianna Fail abandon their ludicrous plans to parade the head of Britain's armed forces through our streets.
The protest will begin at 6pm on Monday, September 20th, outside of City Hall on Dame Street.

Jump To Comment: 1 2It is estimated that the visit will cost 8 million euro or more. At a time when people are losing their jobs and vital services are being cut. the tax money of Irish workers should not have to pay for the excesses and junkets of the bored british upper classes. People should boycott this visit on economic grounds alone if nothing else
Finally after Cowans mumblings of the possibility of a state visit by a British Royal clearer words are circulating through the grape vine of its inevitability.
Plans are afoot to upgrade the roads and paths around and in the Phoenix Park. These plans are to include Blackhorse Ave,a residential road which will be subject to major disruption for residents.
Also OPW requisitions have began to draw down funds to upgrade facilities within Big Birds Palace and Dublin Castle.
Be warned and Be ready.
