Foreign Secretary David Lammy set out "the future of the U.K.'s foreign policy" this week. It's an abysmal vision, says Dr. David McGrogan, but it gives hope that the edifice of 'progressive realism' will soon collapse.

Some actions of humans are so dark that we prefer to ignore them, and may be quietly grateful when truthtellers are censored. But we must stop being willing to overlook the sacrifice of children, writes Dr David Bell.

Debate and discuss the ideas that will change the world!

Socialist Youth organises this annual Summer festival as an event where young people can come together to discuss the issues that affect them, discuss how to build the fight against cuts and capitalism, debate the alternatives, and learn about socialist ideas. Along with discussion you will also get to relax and enjoy yourself over the weekend with music, barbeques, film showing, football and lots more. It's an event that you can’t afford to miss!

The event takes place from the 20 - 22 of August.

The continuing crisis of capitalism is destroying all options for young people. With 430,000 on the dole, the idea of finding a half‐way decent job is all but gone. The government is shutting the option of eductaion with savage cutbacks and hikes in registration fees.
Even the dole has been slashed for young people.

The governments message for young people is clear ‐ they want to kick us out of the country through forced emigration. They don't care about workers, young people or the unemployed. This is a crisis of capitalism, caused by the greed and speculation of the rich. It emphasises the fundamentally undemocratic nature of capitalism, where big business and 'the markets' have the power to destroy the lives of millions.

Greece has seen a series of general strikes and mass protests in the last months against the cutbacks there. Similarly we have seen huge student protests, strikes and occupations against cuts and privatisation of education in Germany and Austria. More and more people are no longer simply vitims of the crisis and the profit system, but opponents of it.

-----------------------Israel/Palestine: How can the oppression of Palestinians be fought?----------------------------

A few years ago, Palestinian civil society called for an international campaign to begin the process of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against the Apartheid regime in Israel. This is one of the solutions Palestinians came to, this is WHAT THEY WANT.

Someone told me the SP was against BDS - I couldn't believe them when I first heard that. But I have heard it again since. Anyway, its going to be tricky to get around the subject of what Palestinians 'actually want', and what a very small Socialist Party in Ireland 'wants to see'.

Its actually a shame to waste the opportunity to invite someone from the Free Gaza movement or the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign to come and do a workshop on BDS just as it is gaining international support. Bloody damn shame....
