Iran Air A300 Airbus : US-style Justice for Iran

Iranians gather to remember US terrorist outrage on civilian airliner

In 1990, America’s President George H. W. Bush awarded William C. Rogers III, the Legion of Merit for his service as a commanding officer in the US navy. Two years previously Rogers had been the commander of the USS Vincennes when the warship shot down an Iranian civilian aircraft over the Persian Gulf killing all 290 people aboard . On the twenty-second anniversary of the atrocity last Saturday, relatives of the victims sailed to the spot where Iran Air A300 Airbus came down. In a message read out at the ceremony, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked :
"In which culture ... can that Legion of Merit be awarded to the criminal USS Vincennes commander."

Yes the president rightly asks the question how can you give a medal to such a war criminal. Then back home to over see the stoning of some women for commiting adultery.

"Yes the president rightly asks the question how can you give a medal to such a war criminal. Then back home to over see the stoning of some women for commiting adultery."

just because there are still injustices in Iran, does not in any way negate the point that the US behaved abominably over this "incident" where their military killed 290 innocent people and then just went "oops".

stop trying to derail this story. If you have a problem about sharia law then by all means post a story about that yourself but don't try to conflate two seperate issues and muddy the water on what was clearly a highly immoral and very dubious act by the US military. They need to be held accountable if they use deadly force carelessly so this kind of thing does not ever happen again.

The downing of the jet was an act of mass murder by the US. I find it hard to believe that the the jet was mistaken for a fighter plane.

It should be noted that the US is happy to be friends with Saudi Arabia another country where women are stoned to death.

What the Americans did was inexcusable, what goes on in Iran/Saudi is equally as unacceptable. That's what you get when (any) religous fundamentalism is in charge. My sympathy is with the people not their hypocritical leaders, therefore find it difficult to accept when they put themselves forward talking of others misdeeds.

You neglect a couple of points there.Like if the US had not interfered to overthrow a democratic Iranian government in 1953 and implant the Shah as oil dispensary puppet the Islamic regime might never have gained traction.
Or that the reactionarey Saudi source of Wahabbi Islam has been supported and armed for decades by the same military/industrial complex Eisenhower warned about back in the fifties.
Or that for the same oil-based reasons the US unquestioningly supports Israel as it slides further and further down the theocratic fascist slope.
The list goes al the way back to the US's parentage as offspring of genocidal European master-race imperialism. This program in turn sets up ultra-nationalist fascist responses from traumatised societies.Unless they can be sufficiently reduced, as with the native American tribes and the ethnic war on the Palestinian people.
And the cycles continue until we understand what drives the process.Another ten centuries should se it sorted.
