event notice
Thursday May 20, 2010 17:32 by various - WSM & éirígí
19.00 at Wolfe Tone once more Last Tuesday the Gardaí attempted to stop the Anti-Capitalist Bloc marching to join up with the Right to Work Campaign at the Dail protest. Despite riding horses into the march they failed to either deny us our freedom to protest or to provoke a response as we pushed through and around them. Join us this week, same time and same place as we once more assert our freedom to protest. The previous Tuesday Gardaí had used extendable steel batons against the heads of protesters trying to enter the Dail carpark resulting in at least five head injuries. And that Saturday they again attacked the éirígí protest at Anglo Irish Bank. We've seen the state react in a similar fashion to resistance in Rossport, Mayday 2004 and Reclaim the Streets. Last week hundreds of us decided it was time to say Enough, this week we hope you and many more will join us. |

Workers Solidarity Movement to join Anti-Capitalist Bloc in march to Dáil on Tuesday night.
“We have a very simple message for the politicians and for the developers, bankers and speculators whose greed brought about this crisis – ‘They didn't share the wealth, we won’t share the pain? Make the rich pay for the crisis’ (Gregor Kerr)
Members of Anarchist organisation, Workers Solidarity Movement (WSM) will assemble at the Wolfe Tone Statue, St. Stephen’s Green on Tuesday evening at 7p.m. as part of an Anti-Capitalist Bloc jointly organised with left republican organisation Eirigi.
The bloc has been called to coincide with the Right To Work protest which will take place at Dáil Eireann at 7:30.
“Last Tuesday the Gardaí attempted to stop the Anti-Capitalist Bloc marching to join up with the Right to Work Campaign at the Dail protest. The aggressive and heavy handed garda response could well have resulted in serious injury, “said Gregor Kerr, WSM spokesperson. “But despite riding horses into the march they failed to either deny us our freedom to protest or to provoke a response as we pushed through and around them.”
“This week we are returning to the same spot to both assert our right to protest and to reflect the growing public anger at government policy which is determined to inflict all the pain of the economic crisis on ordinary people while the wealthy get off scot free,” Mr. Kerr continued.
“We have a very simple message for the politicians and for the developers, bankers and speculators whose greed brought about this crisis – ‘They didn't share the wealth, we won’t share the pain? Make the rich pay for the crisis’. We will be taking that message back on the streets on Tuesday night.” Mr. Kerr concluded.

Note to Editor:- Workers Solidarity Movement (WSM) is an Irish anarchist organisation with branches in Dublin and Cork and members in several other places around the country. WSM members are actively involved in many community and trade union campaigns, and have been involved at local and workplace level in building opposition to the government bailout of bankers and developers.

éirígí is a socialist republican party, not 'left republican' as you state

May I suggest meeting up somewhere else a bit further away from the Dail. Marching such a short distance doesnt really give people time or space to build up energy to get themselves together.
It doesnt have to be as far away as the Garden of Remembrance, just not so close to the Dail. If the march starts and then stops almost immediately, then people go home a bit deflated.
