The Greek Prime Minister, Papandreou, is also President of the Socialist International. His imposition of Lenihan-style neo-liberal austerity has provoked street clashes, but little real, political opposition. That the President of the Socialist International finds himself in such a predicament raises serious questions about the entire European social democratic project.
