Zeitgeist Ireland Chapter Press Release
RE: Zeitgeist Day (ZDAY) March 13th 2010

In 2009 we had 450 events in 70 countries. This year will be even larger. In just one year our movement has grown to over 400,000 registered members, increasing at a rate of nearly 10,000 a week. Our movement has established growing chapters in almost every country, and continues to coordinate with like-minded groups advocating environmental awareness and sustainable technologies.

On March 13th Zeitgeist Ireland will be featuring a screening at Seomra Spraoi (located at Belvidere Court off Gardiner St). The screening followed by a short Q&A will begin at 5.30 pm and will finish at 9 pm.

The Zeitgeist Movement is not a political movement. As the activist arm of The Venus Project it goes beyond nations, governments, races, religions, creeds or class. Zeitgeist Ireland is part of a global movement, one which promotes social action through awareness and education, recognizing our collective potential to overcome crime, poverty, pollution and war. We look at these problems critically and actively promote and research new solutions.

Zeitgeist Day (or, ZDAY for short) is an annual day of global action which occurs in March of each year. The goal of Z Day is to increase public awareness of The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project, for only through questioning our information can we increase our understanding of our fundamental issues and begin to address them on a global scale.

The Zeitgeist Movement is concerned with addressing the root problems in today’s society. Within our understanding it is no use stomping on the ants that come from behind the fridge unless we remove the spoiled food behind it.

.... what about restructuring of the workplace and democracy? Where does this fit into the idea of one man?

Who decides what and how? In this new world how are decision made?

And it is a nice pipe dream. But it all assumes that human beings are intelligent, resourceful, altruistic and looking at the bigger picture. In reality, human beings are largely stupid, short sighted, petty and selfish and easily led. Furthermore, those in power will not let go of the reins lightly and they have a pretty good system of control in place.

Still, if only it was possible to have a resource based economy based on ethics and human needs and sustainability. One can only wish. I'm behind you in principle but I don't hold out much hope of human beings having the sense to mobilise in this rational way. I think longer term, a global Easter island scenario and another dark age with cannibalism and fundamentalist religions taking over is much more likely.

Best of luck though. Everyone should see the films as food for thought

The movement exists to increase awareness of the Venus Project, there is lots of reading material that goes a lot further into this subject than the films do. Humans are made stupid, not born stupid. The movement doesn't require a population of intellectuals anyway, it recognises that everyone has different skills/ gifts and encourages people to do what they feel inspired to do, and teaches people that contribution back to the society that will provide for the needs of everyone is a great achievement, instead of trying to attain money, power, and property.

Please read more into it before passing judgement, the only reason that it hasn't already started to change is because there are people doubting it. 150,000,000+ people watching it. if only half of them believed enough to help us out, on whatever small level we would already of changed the social/ political landscape of the world.

387,000 of us now, with the rate of expansion we should hit 1,000,000 by the end of the year.

Join, if you are doubt full, tell us why- we are looking for people to point out the problems, we know there are obstacles, that's why we need help.

It is an open, participatory movement.

Love and Peace

I couldn't agree more with the venus projects ideas.
We need people to engage with this idea and not just rely on the old ideals and political ways of the past.
These ways have brought us to where we are now. Capitalism has failed on a huge scale. it doesnt provide for all of our earths people, its a selfish outdated way of viewing the world...

I looked into the Venus Project a bit a while back. I thought it had a lot of good in it. I like the notion of a resouce based economy and I think that this is something "the left" (whatever the fk that means?) should look at but I couldn't dig the way that the whole thing was underpinned by technology. It sounded ungrounded and dangerous and needs looking at for any of the good stuff the Venus Project proposes to work.
Glad to see all these new ideas springing up though. Good luck with it
Cheers
