Tree Walk at NUIG

On Saturday, 17 October at 3pm, Brian Finan, who recently retired having spent 40 years as Head Gardener at NUI Galway, will conduct a short tree walk on campus.

The tour will feature many of NUI Galway’s fine specimen trees, including the Ginkgo biloba or Maidenhair tree beside the Quadrangle, considered to be one of the best of its kind in Ireland.

An exhibition, ‘Within a Tree’ from 10-30 October will feature pieces by the Galway Chapter of the Irish Woodturners’ Guild. Over 40 functional and artistic pieces will reflect on the fact that, after its life, there is still beauty to be found ‘within a tree’. The official opening is at 3pm on Saturday, 10 October and the exhibition will be open daily from noon to 4pm in the University Art Gallery in the Quadrangle. All are welcome and admission is free.
