Big Bag of Sticks reunite for Amnesty International Fundraiser

category galway | miscellaneous | event notice author Thursday August 06, 2009 13:10author by Amnesty Galway - Amnesty International Report this post to the editors

Queen Elvis to support

Fresh from their brilliant gig main stage at the Volvo Ocean Race, Big Bag of Sticks are re-uniting one more time to play a fundraiser for Amnesty International in what is guaranteed to be a packed Roisín Dubh’s on Friday 21 August.

Big Bag of Sticks need no introduction to their Galway fans; they were an institution in Galway and beyond in the 1990’s. They have toured Europe with artists such as The Pogues, Altan, Jack L and Liam O Maonlaí and there’s neber an empty dance floor when the Big Bag of Sticks play their mix of reggae and rock inspired folk music!

Having long since gone their separate ways they now only reform for special occasions and as band member and singer Caroline Stanley said, “An opportunity to support Amnesty International and to play a reunion gig for our fans and new supporters in Galway is certainly a special occasion”.

Queen Elvis, the support act on the night will be a musical treat of a slightly more mellow nature – they are an original act from Galway and they perform a cocktail of acoustic soul folk with a twist of jazz. They have played numerous gigs both here and abroad, including The Electric Picnic last August and recently headlined the Mugello Folk Festival in Tuscany Italy.

This band will be sure to win new fans with their beautiful arrangements and haunting melodies. Their socially conscious songs, they promise, will touch the very core of your soul. Their first EP ‘Little world’ will be available at the gig and will have it’s official launch later this year.

The band, the support band and the Roisín Dubh’s are generously donating all of the proceeds from this event to Amnesty International.

Tickets are priced at a recession busting 10 Euros and available from www.roisindubh.net and in the Amnesty International Freedom Café 2-3 Middle St., Galway 091 533637.
