A seminar entitled "The Forgotten People of Somalia" will take place on Saturday 23rd May, between 11.00am and 2.00pm, in the Boole Lecture Theatre, UCC. The event has been organised by the Somali Human Rights Advocacy Group in Ireland. The seminar will be addressed by Sulieman Abdulahi, Janet Twomey, Nura Hagi and Nobuhle Ncube.

The Somali Human Rights Advocacy Group in Ireland will host a seminar entitled "The Forgotten People of Somalia" on Saturday 23rd May in the Boole Lecture Theatre, University College Cork.

The event is organised by Somali and Irish activists, who are concerned at the human rights violations and potential humanitarian disaster facing the people of Somalia.

The conflict began in 1991. During the last two years, since the invasion by the Ethiopian army, over 16,000 people have been killed, 100,000s wounded. Hundreds of thousands are either refugees or internally displaced persons.

The aim of the seminar, which will be attended by academics, activists, public representatives, media and humanitarian and human rights organisations, is to establish an "Ireland Somalia Solidarity Campaign."

The conference will begin at 11.00am and conclude at 2.00pm. The speakers will be Sulieman Abdulahi- Somali Human Rights Advocacy Group in Ireland, Janet Twomey-Trocaire, Nura Hagi-Somali Human Rights Advocacy Group in Ireland and Nobuhle Ncube-AkiDwA.
