Mayo County Council has granted planning permission to G&N Loftus Recycling and Sons Ltd. for a waste sorting for recycling facility at a former spinning plant at the Asahi site in Killala, Co. The Cavan County Manager assured a delegation from Cavan Better Waste Management (CBWM) that the 100 acres at Corranure, Co. Cavan owned by Oxigen Environmental Ltd. would not be developed into a landfill after CBWM’s group treasurer Mary McDwyer said the proposed sale of land to Oxigen would result in ‘Cavan town…getting a super dump on its doorstep.’ (Anglo-Celt 23/4/09, p. 5).
Local groups are planning to appeal to An Bord Pleanala against a decision to grant planning permission to Go Recycling, a subsidiary of ONE 51 group, for a waste transfer station between Castleconnell and Montpelier, Co. Limerick. (Limerick Leader 25/4/09, pp. 1,2).

NEPP held a general public meeting last Wednesday at the Headford Arms Hotel in Kells, Co.
