Save IndyMedia!

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday August 04, 2002 14:24author by Jake from Canada Report this post to the editors

I am sick and tired of Indy Media and human Rights Groups being hijacked by the Pro Arab Lobby. There are already many many Arab sites that are Hate-Filled.

. As far as human rights go, Israel has the best human rights record of any Middle East country. I challenge any reader to dispute this fact.

Palestinian media and outside sources claim that Arafat has ordered or allowed the public execution of over 800 of his own people for political reasons. The Free Lebanon Web Site claims Arafat and the PLO massacred Lebanese villages. Syria massacred about 4000 Fundamentalists and Jordan killed hundred of them. Egypt is still torturing and killing hundred of people who belong to the Muslim Brotherhood. What kind of Human Rights are there in Saudi Arabia where not long ago a Canadian Woman working there was arrested by the religious police and taken to jail where see was beaten so badly her face was scared. Her crime? She was in a car with men. They were beaten also.

Why are the Indy Media and Humanitarian Groups almost silent in the face of all these massacres and human rights abuses? Why do they allow Pro Arab Groups to dominate their Web Sites with the same old Jew Bashing Hate Mongering. If the articles had something constructive to say in order to further the Peace Process than that is OK. And some of the articles do attempt to do that but the majority is just hate mongering and have no place on Indy Media.

So let’s save Indy Media for enlightened minds and constructive comments and fair coverage!

Ethnic cleansing, extra-judical killings, massacres of civilians, detention without trial, torture and sexual abuse of detainees. I think you should go and see a shrink, you have got rather serious problems.

Seriously, cheers to all those working on this site. Just a quick comment saying thanks for the graft and an equally quick shame on those posting rubbish on the wire, which by the way is probaly totally ineffective in garnishing support for yier arguments. and just to confirm that in dont work on the site...

whether this person is a propagandist or not appears to be in dispute so i'll leave that to others, as i don't know who he is. however leaving that aside, he does make a good point, why are the brutal middle eastern regimes mentioned not being pulled up by this site and others, or at least there is very little coverage. is it because palestine-israel is in vogue at the moment? i don't mean to be too critical or cast any doubt on the genuine concern people have. i feel very strongly about the israeli attrocities being carried out and fully support the palestinian cause, but at a march to the jewish embassy earlier this year, among the pro palestinian chants( which i fully agree with and chanted too ) there were pro arafat chants. i have to say i did not and will not join such chants. arafat is a corrupt and brutal power monger and he and his plo organisation enjoy very little support in the refugee camps of the illegally occupied territories. that is not to say i agree with the us solution of replacing him wity a pro american puppet. the palestinian people deserve to be allowed to democratically chose their own leader, and i'm afraid that if the plo continue is as they are now, there will be more intimidation and jailing of political opponents and supression of opposition in general. arafat will win of course but will he really be the choice of the palestinian people?

I fully support the cause of the Palestinian people for self determination. My support is not an endorsement of any other Government in the region.

I have to say this site has litle in terms of quality debate in it. Instead of looking at or discussing facts most posters on this site tend to vomit out the most uneducated rant in replacement of genuine dabate. For example the first poster on this page puts forward a valid argument "why when there are humen rights atrocities being comited all over the Arab world do the posters on these sites concentrate solely on Isreals record". I fully agree that the oppresion of the palistinian people is unacceptable and that Americas continued support for Sharons murderous policies is proof that the myth of America being the leading fighter for freedom and democrasy is crap. But hey it goes on in puppet governments all over the midle east. How about we take a look at them for a change. While obviously not forgetting the crimes that are being commited in the occupied regions. Who are these wannabe intelectuals that keep on replying to fair and honost arguments with soundbites that they get out of websites. Can you not formulate an argument? Is it simply that your brains havent evolved enough to put maybe some facts or figures to back up your (on a lot of occasions truthful) arguments instead of lashing out with insults like a cornered child when hes been outreasoned? No doubt ill get a berrage of messages from the very people that think "all Isrealies are scum" is a effective means of forwarding your borrowed opinions. Please, your unrational rants are only serving to give people who study and understand whats happening in the Isreal-Palistine conflict an image of people who base their opinions on soundbites and headlines (they wont even read the stories).

Alright then.
Has anyone given any thought as to how the conflict there might be resolved. It is all to clear that there is no military solution to the conflict, except for the complete annihilation of one side by the other. One could argue that what the Israeli authorities are doing is a slow, gradual extermination - a few settlements here, carve up some land there, withhold taxes, cripple the economy - as effective in the long run. There are definitely sections of Palestinian society who want nothing less than to push Israel into the sea. Is the situation intractable?

The conflict can only be resolved when enough pressure is put on the Zionists to withdraw from all occupied land and all "SETTLEMENTS" are dismantled and a viable Palestinian state is established. Given the policies of Washington and Sharon, that goal is a long way down the road.

Israel is not democratic - 4 million people under its control are denied self-determination because of their race and their religion.

Israel is not a friend of truth - their propaganda departments at home and in the US cynicaly and deliberately manipulate public opinion on a massive scale.

Israel willingly embraces war in return for 'living space' ("Lebensraum"), and knowingly, cynicaly violates article 4 of the Geneva convention in doing so.

Israel accepts ethnic cleansing, collective punishment, shoot-on-sight curfews, infrastructure destruction, etc., etc, as part of its ordinary, everyday political discourse.

Israel cynicaly manipulates the jewish religion to defend and even promote war crimes, without any regard for the sanctity of faith. Israel hides behind Judasim.

Israel, from whom did you learn to behave like this? Who is it that you emulate? Who's ideology have you inherited? Who made you what you have become?

I think you, of all nations, know what it is that you have become...

I think we all know whose example the Zionists are following, the NAZIS. The policies of the Sharon Regime are strikingly similar to those of Adolf, i.e. ethnic cleansing, collective punishment, massacres of civilians, an apartheid style style society. Ironic in the extreme, given the Nazi campaign of racial genocide directed against the Jewish people in Europe during the second world war.
