I was looking forward to seeing this debate, thanks for posting Mark P.

Fair play to Jim Power for turning up but he was a disappointing and unconvincing opponent.
... His grasp of socialism , of what the SP stands for is poor, he even confuses the SP and SWP at the start of his speech. He was clearly ill prepared for this debate.
... He doesn't appear to have any conception of the state other than a bourgeois capitalist state
... He repeatedly states that he has no ideology, but Jim everyone has their own way of looking at the world, we all have ideologies, just because you are not conscious of yours does not mean you don't have one.
... In the last video he says "I happen to believe in the notion of entrepreneurial capitalism, an economy based on lot of small businesses, not on one or two big employers". Is this guy for real !. Lets just go back to the 18th century while we are at it and reverse 100's of years of the socialisation of labour. How the hell are we supposed to build cars or mobile phones Jim, lots of small businesses!

This guy gets serious air time on RTE, Newstalk etc.. It makes you wonder what economists are learning in our universities, but should we be surprised really, as the good man would say modern capitalism is like "the sorcerer who is no longer able to control the powers of the nether world whom he has called up by his spells."

Jim was very poor. He tried to paint himself as being soft and cuddly - he has come out on numerous occasions demanding the sacking of tens if not hundreds of thousands of public sector workers - cause obviously more unemployed people is just what we need!
