Tommy Sheridan will, according to media reports, appear in the next Channel 4 Big Brother Series :

Most contributors to the Scotsman blog are spot on (comments follow the story).

More serious events - Brits Out of Iraq next Year - Banks disappearing, Capitalist Chaos -

may have caught some Indymedia readers on the hop (including Sheridan's comrades and ex-colleagues in the Scottish Solidarity Party, the CWI and the SWP).

Sheridan is an old wreck like Galloway.
Will he be wearing a red leotard and lsurping milk like a cat?
Jim Larkin and James Connally, both fellow Scottish socialists must be spinning in their graves.
What an absurd joke the Left has become, whether in bed with Islamofascists, praising dictators for their indefatiguability or marching the street against Iraqi democracy.

Whats socialist about Tommy Sheridan - the last time I heard him address members of the Scottish Socialist Party, one of the members was moved to ask where the socialism came in ? His suggestions were a bit of tinkering with capitalism and he and the leadership would, well, be the leaders. Socialism is the common ownership of the means of wealth production and distribution, is the work of the working class themselves, and is completely democratically controlled. It has nothing to do with capitalism, or tinkering, or vanguard leaders, or careerist power - wanna - haves. If he is foolish enough to enter the BB house he will have the rip taken out of him, like tom cat Galloway (another vanguardist leader), and will certainly just help to twist the meaning of socialism yet again in the popular, media distorted, and profit orientated, imagination. Still be good for his bank accoumt I suppose.

See link below for CWI reaction to this. They are clearly opposed to his participation. My only point is that it is obvious and has been for a long time that Sheridan is a self seeking opportunist, who destroyed the SSP for petty personal advantages. There is nothing surprising about him going further down this route. It is a shame that the CWI took so long to wake up to his real nature and the risks of getting into bed with him.

Despite speculation that charges might not be pursued before a deadline of next March it seems a perjury trial of the Sheridans will go ahead :
