TNT with LASC.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thursday Night Talks offer you an informal, social space to learn and share your experiences and knowledge of Latin America with other LASC members, volunteers and the general public. Chris O’Connell, committee member of LASC, has recently returned from Ecuador, where he was researching his thesis on Latin American politics and the regime of President Rafael Correa. On Thursday 23rd October he will speak about the historical roots of the emergence and triumph of Correa, his populist and socialist tendencies, and his relationship with social movements in Ecuador. The talk will also focus on the new constitution that was recently approved by referendum, and in particular its guarantee of water as a human right. The meeting will consider these events in the wider context of the ‘shift to the left’ and attitudes to neo-liberal policies such as privatisation in Latin America. |
