Now that's what I call a protest- how to get married and boycott Shell at the same time

Couple close petrol station with ceremony

I've always fancied a brief chat with an official in an out of the way registry office, while some think it needs an Elvis impersonator in a church in a Las Vegas. Others like hotels, marquees, beaches in the Maldives, even on the wings of a plane- but I don't think anyone can beat closing a petrol station with your wedding vows.

They even used D-Locks on the pumps instead of rings!

Check out more pictues and details of the ceremony here : http://chriskasza.blogspot.com/2008/09/week-25-best-not....html

(Of course, Shell's plans in Mayo really deserve a more funereal-style protest.)

Are these people for real? Don't they know that the petrol station is owned and run by a conscessionaire, not Shell! They should have locked on to the Shell HQ in Dublin, or better yet, Amsterdam! Do it right!

You think Shell don't get anything out of a Shell station selling their petrol and supporting their brand? What planet are you on- ?

Protests like this discourage businesses from supporting unethical companies like Shell. It worked in Ireland in 2005. When the Rossport Five were imprisoned, there were pickets on Shell and Statoil stations all over Ireland. Statoil had to abandon a planned expansion because the filling station owners thinking of signing up with them were unwilling to take on all the baggage that came with the Corrib controversy.
