"Hammered by the Irish" Gig at Lower Deck Pub Postponed to Thurs 7.30 pm Oct 9th

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Wednesday September 03, 2008 18:36author by Ciaron O'Reily Report this post to the editors

Be There or Be Square!

The "Hammered by the Irish" gig at the Lower Deck previously
publicised for (at "Electric Picnic" & elsewhere) for 7.30 pm Thursday S18
has been moved to 7.30pm Thursday Oct. 9th.

The gig is......

-an anti-war gathering in celebration and resistance to Irish complicity in the
ongoing U.S. wars on Iraq and Afghanistan.
-an event to welcome the publication of Harry Browne's book "Hammered
by the Irish" on the Pitstop Ploughshares action at Shannon and acquittal
at the Four Courts.
http://bushtelegraph.wordpress.com/2008/06/13/hammered-...rish/
-a farewell to Pitstop Damien as he heads off to volunteer in Africa for a
year.
http://irishinghana.blogspot.com/2008/08/preparing-to-v....html
-a fundraiser (entry free or by donation & beware the raffle!) for anti-war
resisters in jails, brigs and courts resisting the war.

There will be live music, a rap on Harry's book (hopefully by the author
or someone who has read it!) and beer!

We have postponed the event to Thursday Oct 9th. 7.30 pm for the following reasons....
-it clashes with Donal O'Kelly production of his excellent play "Catalpa" in Ballymun in aid of
"Chidrenin the Crossfire"
http://www.donalokellyproductions.com/?p=76
-it clashes with the clebrations of the 40th. anniversary of the Civil Rights
movement - gig at Liberty Hall
-we expect some 500 books would have arrived in Dublin from the U.S. for the
Oct 9th. gig! (they weren't gonna make it by Sept. 18th.)

"Hammered by the Irish" is presently available at the "Republican National Convention"
in St. Paul Minnesotta, U.S.A. (assuming Kathy Kelly hasn't been thrown in jail with 300
other good people!)

The book is presently being distributed in the U.S. by publishers Counterpunch www.counterpunch.org
AK Press (San Francisco), "Voices for Creative Nonviolence" (Chicago), CW Bookstore (D.C.)
In Dublin it will be available at some down bok stores, Afri office Phibsborough, London Anarchist Bookfair,
and from moi (if you spot me wandering around downtown in October!).
