Based on the true story of one of the greatest prison escapes in history Catalpa is one of the classics of modern Irish theatre. This award-winning show tells the story of the 1875 voyage of the whaling ship Catalpa which engaged in a daring attempt to rescue six Irish political prisoners from penal servitude in Western Australia.

Catalpa has played all over the world – Washington, Melbourne, London, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Paris, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Geneva – and always to enthusiastic audiences and rave reviews.

Catalpa plays axis, Ballymun in advance of an of-Broadway run in the Irish Arts Centre New York.
