The latest crime report shows a massive increase in violent crime What have the Garda been doing about it? joining in by the looks of it... if you cant beat them, join them. The Garda Commissioners own report shows massive failings in the Police/Justice system * 93% increase in Assaults * 83% increase in Sexual Assaults * 33% increase in Murders What on earth are the thousands and thousands of Garda doing (13,000) as our country descends in to violence? Despite Large increases in funding, manpower and equipment the police do little to keep the streets safe for ordinary people. Instead our new minister for Justice seems to have prioritised the harassment of Immigrants, Travellers and Protesters! In an inept display of Scapegoating Minister Mr McDowell tried to blame everyone but those responsible. (including Teachers and parents) McDowell also used the old chestnut of More Funding More Resources and most worrying More Laws. FF PD you have failed us, your Celtic Tiger is violent and out of control “Zero Tolerance is what we should be showing to this dangerous and institutionally lazy Government and its boot boys” |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5the garda serve no other purpose but to preserve the status quo. the very safety of you and me, our friends and family means as little to the garda as it does to those perpetrating the acts against us. as the poster of this news piece has pointed out they usually join in. with power comes inevitable corruption. the garda are in place to make sure we dont step out of line. simple as that. but with their power comes the belief that they are better than us, that they can assault, beat, and plant bombs. power corrupts!
A portion of the rise can be attributed to the new computer system which requires that all incidents be reported and such entered into the crime statistics.
I doubt that previously all minor events were reported. Now, displaying the loathsome visage of Michael McDowell is a serious crime in itself and should warrant a spell of community service. I wonder what he's smiling about?
It should be obvious to you people at this stage that what you consider harassment and intimidation is the forces of law and order fulfilling their job description.
Stop being part of the problem, join the status-quo, grab what you can and understand all there is to smile about.

I am of course aware of the cops new computer system, the fact that all incidents (reported) will be included in the statistics is interesting. In the area where I live, many people regard ringing the cops as a sick joke. How many incidents go unreported here?????
