Video Screening
Tracking Beacon (NY12508)
A new video by Peter O'Kennedy
Showing May 16 – June 12, St.Stephen's Green.
Opening Thursday May 15th 6-9 pm
An abandoned railway track runs through the town of Beacon, in upstate New York. A miniature camera mounted on a small machine built to ride the track records a long, extreme close-up tracking shot of one of the rails as it enters, passes through, and leaves the town. As the machine carries the camera along the track (as the track tracks itself), the sun sets and the piece ends in darkness.
![Click on image to see full-sized version Tracking Beacon Still](../attachments/may2008/image.jpg) Tracking Beacon Still The première of Tracking Beacon (NY12508) is presented in an abandoned squash court on St.Stephen's Green, which with borrowed chairs and bought paint has been converted into a temporary, intimate cinema setting. Although the video consists of a single 104 minute long tracking shot and has no narrative in a traditional sense, by showing the work with specified starting times, in a seated, cinematic environment, the intention is to both encourage and facilitate the exhibition-goer to set aside the time for the content to unwind, allowing its alternative narrative to play out.
Showing at: Rear of 92-93 St.Stephen's Green, Dublin 2. (Between Harcourt Street and Earlsfort Terrace.) Ring bell on gate for entry.
Exhibition continues from May 16 to June 12 Tuesdays to Sundays (closed Mondays), 1pm to 9pm
Duration: 104 minutes. Start times: 1.15 pm; 3.15 pm; 5.15 pm; 7.15 pm
Information / Seat reservation: 086 662 3331
