category dublin | anti-capitalism | news report author Tuesday May 13, 2008 14:59author by Nikita - CYM Report this post to the editors

On Sunday 11th of May representatives of the CPI and the Connolly Youth Movement laid wreaths and flowers on the grave of James Connolly at Arbour Hill, Dublin, in the annual tribute to the revolutionary socialist pioneer and martyr.

Eddie Glackin, member of the National Executive Committee, CPI, gave an oration in which he pointed out the relevance of Connolly’s essay “What is a free nation?” to the campaign against the Lisbon Treaty.

Gareth Murphy, general secretary of the CYM, reaffirmed the youth movement’s commitment to the struggle against imperialism.

All credit to Comrade Karlo for the photos.

No. I'd say he's one of those dogs in the street who know the Lisbon Treaty is a con job.
Or is that a bit ruff...?

The Communist Party and its youth wing the CYM have always been the disciplined true vanguard of the labour movement and all progressive Irish citizens. The pictures show only a few old geezers, one with a tame dog (lapdog of imperialist reaction?) and possibly two 'youths'. If they are the vanguard where are the toiling masses? Were some of them at mass or in the pubs? Or at Croke Park watching a foreign game like rugger?
