Clare - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Monthly Vigil at Shannon Airport![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You are invited to join the monthly vigil at Shannon airport on Sunday 13 April 2008 from 5 PM to 6 PM. Meet at the small roundabout just before the security hut/entrance to the airport, and for one hour show your opposition to the involvement of Shannon in international networks of torture, enforced disappearances and secret detentions. The USA’s secret detention network is global, and is facilitated by Shannon airport. The US use of water torture is now officially out in the open; there have been revelations that videotapes of CIA interrogations have been destroyed; and there are documented cases of persistent use of torture around the world. Meanwhile, five years after the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, Iraq is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Hundreds of people are being killed every month by violence; countless lives are being threatened every day by poverty, shortages of water, medical supplies and other necessities; and there is rising violence against women and girls. |
