Dublin Gay Pride 2007

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday June 28, 2007 20:38author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Yet another year and Stonewall is commemorated with a big celebration of joy.
Oh no! Another Pride?
Oh no! Another Pride?

Appalling weather held off as the mirth and merriment gathered at Parnell Square for 2pm. Pride and joy, was the theme for this year's Pride Parade, thousands took part regardless of age sex gender, all celebrating diversity, sexuality and having a good time!

David Norris who was the Grand Marshall of the event delivered a rousing performance celebrating the fact that Gay Rights had come an awful long way in 30 years and reminded revellers not to forget the very real issues facing LGBT people in Russia, Latvia amongst many other countries. He paid particular attention to civil unions and bullying in schools. He paid tribute to those who helped bring about change and to the many people who have died along the way.

The zero alcohol tolerance at the Amphitheatre, didn't really happen as many didn't know about it. Quality champagne clinked with eastern European drink cans. Rain cancelled the event by 5.30, but didn't dampen the hardiest of spirits, who were making up for not being at Glastonbury.
