Anti-War protest at Shannon Airport

category national | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Tuesday May 15, 2007 13:01author by Roger Cole - Peace & Neutrality Allianceauthor email pana at eircom dot net Report this post to the editors

Anti-War protest

The Peace & Neutrality Alliance is organising a anti-war protest at Shannon Airport on Saturday 19th of May, assembling at the security barrier at the entrance to the Airport at 2.00
For more information Tel. 087-2611597 or e mail [email protected]

Since 1996 PANA has sought to build a broad based alliance of groups an individuals opposed to the process of the integration of Ireland into the US/EU military structures to ensure Ireland's full and active participation in the resource wars of the 21st century. For the first time since the 1914-18 war Ahern and Blair ensured all Ireland participation in an Imperialist war.

PANA cannot allow the election to take place without a protest at Shannon Airport before virtually all the voters have made up their mind. We also accept that since the corporate media virtually ignored the results of the LMR poll that showed that 58% of the people are opposed to the use of Shannon it has not become a significant issue in the election. While welcoming the fact that health and education and other communal services are the dominant issues, the fact that the Irish Defence budget has passed the €1 billion mark and that pressure will be put on the Labour and Green Party which look like being members of an incoming government to accelerate the process of integration into the US/EU structures as is happening to all othe EU States( Finalnd is joining NATO) it is up to PANA and the other anti-wr groups to oppose this process. The demo at Shannon is only one small step in that struggle

Not sure of the details yet but Edward Horgan has been detained for scattering red roses inside the terminal building.
I assume it's by the airport police but could be the Gardai assigned to the protest today.

I do not know what motivates people like election watch. PANA was founded in 1996. Richard Boyd Barrett is not a member.
PANA is holding this demonstration to mark our opposition to the decision of the Irish political/media elite to collabotate with an Imperialist war by allowing Shannon to be used in that war. If electionwatch supports the war then he should say so. If he does not, if he can spare the time he can join us. PANA knows the demo will be a very small one, but we also know from the LMR survey that 58% of the Irish people agree with us. We are also convinced the warmongers will in time be defeated just as they were in Vietnam. If Electionwatch wants to back a group of losers that's ok my me.

Looks like a pre-election photo-op to me. Any bets on RBB being on the front of the demo?

Hi,

just wondering if most people are driving down (from Dublin) to this or if there is a bus going?

Cheers
