Poet JOHN LIDDY launches his new and selected poems, 'The Well,' in Galway on May 3rd, at 8pm in The Reading Room of the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square. The reading is organised by The Western Writers' Centre. Admission is free.
Originally from Youghal in Co Cork, he grew up in Limerick, where, with Jim Burke, he founded The Stony Thursday Book in 1975. The new 'selected' features new poems and others from previous collections such as 'Boundaries' (1974), 'The Angling Cot' (1991), 'Song of the Empty Cage,' (1997), 'Wine and Hope' (1999) and 'Cast-a-Net' (2003). Liddy's work has been described by Desmond O'Grady as being "inspired by the paraphernalia of dail life." For Micheál Fanning, poet, "Liddy is a loyal poet - loyal to the tradition of poetry."
John Liddy has lived in Madrid for some years.
