Just a few photos taken inside the refinery site that may be of interest. What is the strange dish on a tripod? It was seen standing alone in the trees to the right of the way leave just after we left the bog and entered the forestry. I wanted to investigate but was urged to stay with the group. Next time perhaps.

Thankyou for clearing that up for us Sean, not speculating just asking questions. Thanks also A10. Vehicle was a tractor towing some sort of tank as you say
Depending on what type of vechicle.Looks like a commerical vechicle of some kind, like a tanker?
If it is not being used on Irish roads and is onsite all the time.No Problem
You see this is what happens when people who don't know what they are talking about start to speculate about things. Before you know it, comments will be on here wondering is it a gas monitor to see how much will leak or is it bomb to blow away the protestors if they invade the site again. Surely it has to be something sinister...I mean its in a tri-pod AND it has a weird dish on top of it.....and we all know that Shell don't do anything Weird looking unless they want to harm the good people of Erris...
Sorry to disappoint you but the "strange dish" is merely a satellie communicator for the Global Positioning System that the engineers are using to set out the position of the terminal to the nearest millimetre. Nothing sinister, they are used on every major civil engineering project all over the country...see this link:

I'm no expert but it looks very like similar funnels which are dotted around the Cork Harbour area and which are for collecting rainwater for sampling. Don't know why it would be at an unbuilt refinery but maybe they're expecting a few emissions.
