Shell profit announcement - Dublin Shell to Sea Protest on Thursday 1st February

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Monday January 29, 2007 16:44author by Dublin Shell to Seaauthor email dublinshelltosea at gmail dot comauthor address c/o 134 Pphiibsborough Road Dublin 7author phone 0876181620 Report this post to the editors

1PM Thursday February 1st - Shell to Sea Protest at Shell Headquarters, 52 Lwr Leeson Street, Dublin 2.

Dublin Shell to Sea will protest at lunchtime on Thursday, February 1st at the Shell HQ at 52 Lwr Leeson Street.

There will of course also be protests against Shell around the world on Feb 1st, with the centrepiece being a full-page advertisement in some Dutch and British newspapers outlining what the human cost of the company's "success" is (see www.shelladvert.org for more info).

We are hoping a large number of supporters will gather at Shell's office at 1PM, to show solidarity with the peoples around the world who are paying the price of Shell's profits, including the people of Erris, County Mayo, who are having a huge refinery and pipeline scheme forced on them against their will.

Shell's profits also call into question the wisdom of not having any return for the people of Ireland from the Corrib gas field, which the Irish government has simply gifted to Shell and the other partners in the Corrib scheme. Profits from the Corrib field could pay for better schools, hospitals, and policing, but instead they will go to Shell's shareholders.

The Shell Ad will be published in the London Guardian on Thursday 1 Feb. 2007and will have Rossport and Irish names in its backdrop.

ThE National Geographic Feb. 2007 has a special article on the poverty of the Niger Delta in which Shell and other oil partners are willing collusionists. There is a moral responsibility in being a partner with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation which admittedly hold 60% stake to Shell's 40%. Shell sees no evil, hears no evil and speaks no evil!
