Our Story the Rossport 5

Every day a Day of Action

Book Launch in Castlebar

Shell to Sea, as always, has a full calendar. In the middle of frost and fog, the newly published book was launched in Castlebar late of a dark evening on Tuesday 19 December 2006. There was rejoicing at the success of Small World Media, its publisher, who took it on to Glenamoy for a home launch the next evening.

Both national and local media were there to record the event.

While the cash flowed, the Rossport 5 were set in a line to do full justice to a signing session.

Several other supporters from Erris were present.

As was Mark Garavan who has done an excellent and painstaking job recording the story. This is not the time for a full review but it is a very full book of detail told in a clear and committed way. There is time to sit and hear all the angles.

A week before, the video Those Who Dance, had its premiere in Glenamoy Hall at the community meeting. It was prepared in London between July and November 2006 and is 49 minutes long in wonderful colour; it weaves the story of Rossport and Ogoni with meditative simplicity. Camilla and Mayyasa were present.

Shell has cleared its camp and equipment from the field along the pipline route and it is returning to its natural state. It is closing its temporary office in Bangor Erris and moving towards the sea at Belmullet.

Shell is moving on to the State complex at a cost of 1 miilion euro; Shell had its 1 miilion euro offer to a State fishing body rejected by the local fishing group. The miilions float around as what?
