Hi I think the Stardust families are right to ask our so called government to get off their fat bums and sit up and listen to their fellow citizen. If it was one of their own children they would pull out the stops and I think all of the 48 victims memories are being ruined by the govt and Mr Eamon Butterly who once never said 'SORRY'.
They are right to fight for Justice and I hope they get it.
I was a kid of about 14 years when due to my parents messy divorce i was sent to live
in Ireland with my aunt and uncle and cousins.
By the time i was eighteen i had gotten very accustomed to life in Ireland and
lived and worked just like everybody else.
I will try to tell this as best as i can remmember it
I still to this day have a hard time talking about it.
It was only recently that i was able to tell my wife of 19 years the events of
that fatefull night.
Myself and my cousins were in the Inn in raheny that friday night having a good time with our
friends.
before we knew it, It was last call
I remmember there was a big debate about what club we should go to.
Some wanted to go to sardis and some wanted to go to the stardust.
To make the story short we split up and went our seperate ways
If i remmember correctly some of us that were going to the stardust went
home briefly to change into propper clothes.
I dont quite remmember (its been so long) if we all went together or if we met
at the stardust
The one thing i will never forget is that my friend George McDermott was always
dressed like a g q model .
I used to admire him for that, I used to say noone could dress like george.
He had a certain way about him that made you instantly like him.
(am having a hard time writing this tears are rolling down my face)
Anyway somehow we all ended up at the stardust.
I guess we wre there for some time (like i said its hard to remmember after all these years)
When the fire broke out.
We were sitting at a table very close to the area where the fire started but we did not
know it at the time .
I remmeber a guy and his girl going through the closed off partitions to my left
(i was facing the dance floor) If i remmember correcyly i think george and i and
and marcella made a joke about it .
Shortly after that they came out and we were laughing about it.
I remmember a staff member saying something about a small fire in the closed off section
but that it was nothing to worry about they would take care of it as soon as the opened the
dividers (i cant quite remmember i think they were somewhat like curtains)
To be honest we didnt think much of it since the employee told us not to worry.
I got up from the table (it was my round)
I was on my way to the bar when that same employee opened that closed off section
and the place went up like a match
There was a quite a bit of fire in that section all of a sudden.
I went back to the table and said lets get out of here .
Someone said it will be alright they have it under control.
I felt uncomfortable and headed for the door .
All of a sudden the black thick smoke was everywhere
I got outside and found myself alone except for a young girl who
worked for the club .
We were stunned for a short time
after a few minutes (which could have been seconds)
we looked at each other and i said we have to do something
she said what can we do?
She and i went into that building many times and helped people to get out
It was hard to go in with all the smoke but we did it anyway.
I was wearing a three piece suit and a sweater when i got to the club.
(trying to keep up with george for the ladies attention)
The fire brigade arrived and not to knock the fire brigade they
were not prepared for this
I had already shed most of my clothes for burn victoms
I have read the book they never came home and cried.
I think the girl who was the employee who with me went back in time and time again
parished when the ceiling fell in on her.
I feel for the firemen it was a tough thing to deal with
I was trying to go in after when a fireman actualy tackled me in the door way
and said you cant go in there again
I remmember we next turned our attention to the bars and steel panels on the
bathroom windows .
I am haunted every day about what i heard coming from inside
I remmember climbing onto the window ledge and getting the fire truck
to come over and give me a cable to wrap arounnd the bars so we could get
people out
It did not work .
my cousin who was not there read the book and told me everyone was saved from the
bathrooms I do not believe it to this day
Please let me say. I am in no way any kind of hero
if i was all my friends would be here with me today.
I did what anybody would have done under the circumstances
I am glad i found this outlet to tell my part of the story.
I walked all the way back to raheny that night
I know maybe my story may not be what the newspapers tell you .
but i promise you i was there and i can prove it .
God bless all of those who lost theire lives that night i will never forget them
my dear friends
George McDermott
Marcella McDermott
William McDermott
Robert Kelly
Donna Mahon
may you all rest in peace knowing that i did not forget any of you
I will never forget

I have been reading reports on the Stardust for many many years as I was 21 at the time.
I wasnt there TG but I knew a LOT of those that perished including the names you mentioned ie; George Mc Dermot (known to us as Gorgeous George) - (btw I was at the time & still am a barman in the Inn Raheny) ([email protected])
To my mind, the Stardust was a terrible disaster..nobody but nobody will deny that... but it happened simply because THERE WAS NO FIRE PREVENTION IN PLACE AT THE TIME...ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY...but look what happened as a result, the whole country's attitude to fire prevention changed simply as a result of STARDUST. My point being....why did 48 people have to DIE such HORRIBLE DEATHS before the proper authorities decided to get up off their behinds & do something....
Sadly it's always the way in this country, nothing will be done about ANYTHING until the preasure to do so becomes unbearable...& that attitude seems to apply to EVERYTHING ELSE...
I think its near time that the government of today stand up and make this right for my family who have gone throught enough and just want to get justice for all the poor young victims of that horrible diaster that took our family members away from us. I was not in it myself but i can tell you now the life i had when that happened was just not right for a girl of 13 to cope with. I just want to see my mother get the justice she so deserves for the years she and my father put into this capaign for justice for the 48 very young victims of such a very bad tradgey. I lost two beautiful sisters and five years later lost my father that lives with me every day and my poor mother lost here beautiful daughters and her soul mate. No one that has ever gone through this would ever no the effect it has on the whole family. So please people of Ireland all i ask is that help us to get the justice that these 48 young victims so deserve.
Best Regards,
Lorraine Keegan
I think i still have a hard time with all of this
But for the grace of god i walked away that night
I now have four beatiful children
I mis all of my friends to this day
I often wonder what georges kids would look like
I bet they would be the best dressed kids in
the country
sorry i cant continue i am cry9ing
peace

Jesus Christ , Why oh Why is Nothing being done 'In The Right Places'
To alleviate the suffering that has befallen the people who are Still Crying
as a result of Stardust.
What is wrong Dear People when all of us cannot pull together and use
the Brains we are blessed with to 'OUT the TRUTH' and Shame The Devil.
Lets support ,in a positive manner , any means available to The Public in
General and give the poor unfortunates heads a rest.
It is quite clear to me that the Media has not done enough probing in the past
as results are Not Forthcoming and we want to know why this is so.
Negativity is No Longer An Option and should be treated as Public Enemy *1.
