Hi, calling anyone interested in travelling with a Northern Irish group to blockade Faslane Nuclear Submarine Base early December. This action is part of Faslane 365 (see www.faslane365.org). We'd love to make this an all Ireland effort, with a view to strengthening anti-nuclear links in Ireland and planning future actions. There will be a non violent direct action training day in Belfast on the 18th of November. This is for anyone interested in coming. Please contact us if you'd like to come/be involved! Faslane 365 is a one year continuous peaceful blockade of the Trident base at Faslane from 1st October 2006 to 30th September 2007. |

The workshop is being facilitiated by a trainer from the Faslane 365 group so that we're up to speed with the latest developments of the 365-day blockade at the nuclear missiles and sub base in Scotland...

So far (since 1st October) there's been 27 Blockading Groups, 36 days of presence, 239 arrests,
1 prosecution and there's still 320 days left!!
And then we're for Mayo, maybe...
Some ideas from groups supporting the Faslane 365 blockade...
Camping Faslane base gate style
Knitters for peace
Lock-on to slow the process...
Any chance of these groups coming together to discuss tactics.
The Make Trident History group which includes Nobel Peace Laureate, Mairead Corrigan Maguire are holding a send- off rally on Friday, 8th December 3.30pm- 4.15pm outside the main gates of Belfast City Hall just prior to travelling to Scotland to peacefully blockade the nuclear submarine base at Faslane near Glasgow, 8-10 December. The group are aware that they risk arrest. To date over 330 people have been arrested.
Mairead Corrigan Maguire said 'The UK government could give moral and political leadership to the world by abolishing its nuclear weapons of mass destruction and closing the door to nuclear proliferation'.
Come along and give them a good send- off. Show your support and solidarity with the group’s aim for the disarmament and total elimination of all nuclear weapons.
The group wish to highlight the following concerns
1) Tony Blair’s decision to replace the current Trident weapon system at a cost of £20-£60 billion is a waste of resources and tax-payers money. This money could better be spent on health, education, energy supplies, environment and world poverty.
2) Britain and USA are going contrary to their signing of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by deciding to develop an updated and yet more lethal Trident nuclear weapons’ system. This sets a bad example and encourages other countries to join in the nuclear weapons’ League of Nations. It increases the risk of a nuclear war which would be disastrous to all life on this planet.
3) The close proximity of this nuclear weapon base constitutes a grave safety risk to the people of N. Ireland
4) The bullish behaviour of the UK Government encourages anti-social violent behaviour. It is sending out a message that the way to resolve international conflict and confrontation is to show that you are strong, and possess a powerful nuclear weapon. This bullying attitude justifies and vindicates the anti-social behaviour we are sadly experiencing in our local communities.
