Crosscare's Emigrant Advice project invites you to attend the launch of 'Living in Ireland – A Guide for New Residents'
On: Monday, 23 October 2006
At: 12 noon
In: the Oak room of the Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2
Emigrant Advice is an information and advocacy project based in Dublin City Centre, under the auspices of Crosscare, the Dublin Diocese Social Care Agency. Originally, Emigrant Advice carried out its information and advocacy work with intending Irish emigrants. In more recent years, Emigrant Advice has expanded its work to include the information needs of returning Irish emigrants and immigrants coming to Ireland for the first time.
Recent CSO figures show that in the year up to April 2006, 87,000 people immigrated into Ireland, of these approx. 40% were EU 10 nationals. Emigrant Advice carries out its work through a range of means – one of which is the compilation and distribution of publications.
The main aims of ‘Living in Ireland – A Guide for New Residents’ are
- As a source of pre-departure information so people can judge if coming to Ireland is a suitable option and if the person does decide to come, to know what to do to prepare thoroughly.
- As a source of information that will help people to navigate the uncertain first few weeks or months of their time in Ireland.
- As an accessible reference source of general information about rights and entitlements in Ireland.
- As an information source that assists in the integration and inclusion of new residents in Irish society.
The publication covers the following issues in detail: Accommodation, Finding a job, Taxes and Banking, Employment Rights and Safety at Work, Healthcare, Social Welfare Benefits and Entitlements, Pensions, Education, Public Transport, Driving in Ireland, Voting in Ireland and Racism and Discrimination.
