The Irish constitution professes to guarantee that the state will cherish all Irish children equally. What it actually means is that the state cherishes the children of married couples and single parents while disowning those of co-habitating couples. How, simple by not allowing said couples to transfer unused tax allowances which in effect means that in such cases the mother is denied the right to stay at home and care for her children another right guaranteed under the so called constitution, because her partner is only allowed a single persons tax allowance. This drastically reduces the take home pay of such families and thus denies their children many opportunities and benefits enjoyed by others.
This is just one point ,there are hundreds of examples of the state's shamefull treatment of hundreds of thousands of Irish children.
The Irish Constitution is not the constitution of the people of Ireland, It is the constitution of the Catholic Church in Ireland.

Just to respond to Ernst

The Irish constitution does not profess to guarantee that the state will cherish all Irish children equally - this was in the Irish Proclamation of Independence adpated in 1916 at the Easter rising.

Children living in all families other than that of a married couple are all at a disadvantage and can be discriminated against because of this.

I totally totally agree with you otherwise.

We need to change this constitution to recognise the realities of family life and childrens lives in Ireland
