news report
Monday September 25, 2006 17:15 by Text: Ruth & Terry Photos: Terry & Niall - Rossport Solidarity Camp
At 15.40pm three cops, one plain-clothes, two uniform, D reg car, were at the Shell to Sea picket H.Q. trailer filming. These police are now (16.05pm) at gate 2 of the Ballinaboy site. They are filming Shell to Sea activist Maura Harrington on the public road, when questioned why they said it was routine, the cop filming does not have identification numbers on his uniform. Despite this being week three of continual dawn vigils and an extra early 4 a.m. start today the determination of the people of Erris remains undaunted and resolute at the picket line. If Shell had anticipated a lessening or erosion of peoples’ determination to prevent this toxic wasteland from being dumped on their doorsteps, they as ever, have misjudged the level of opposition to their plans. |

pickets*
There will be two protests in Dublin this evening Tuesday 26th September
2006, to show solidarity with the people of north Mayo who are picketing at
the site where Shell want to build a giant gas refinery.
Protesters will gather at the Shell garage in Donnybrook, and the Statoil
garage on the quays opposite the Four Courts, at 6PM.
Activists from political groups and parties will be joined by concerned
members of the public for a show of support and solidarity with the
beleagured community in Mayo. Shell and Statoil (with Marathon) are the
companies who will benefit if the refinery is built and connected to the se
a
bed by the experimental pipeline scheme. The Irish people will get nothing
from the exploitation of the gas.
When:*This Evening Tuesday 26th September 2006* from* 6PM*
Where: *Shell, Donnybrook, near Donny brook bus garage 6PM - call Tadhg
0876181620 for details. *

More protests in Dublin are planned.
A spokesperson for the Dublin Shell to Sea group said "Shell and the
Government have spoken about consulting the people, and making up for
mistakes made last year; but all the while they are trying to push ahead
with constructing a giant gas refinery without local consent. The Departmen
t
of Marine had to give permission for Shell to attempt to bring its
contractors on the site at Ballinaboy this morning. It shows that Minister
Dempsey and the scheme's operators have no interest in the consultation
process."
From England-keep it up!!

"An opinion poll carried out for Nuacht TG4 shows that six out of ten people in Mayo think that the Corrib Gas Terminal should be located offshore at sea. Less that a quarter think that it should be built at the planned Bellanaboy site in the north west of the county.
"The Poll also shows that that two thirds of the people questioned supported the stand taken by the five Rossport men, who were jailed last year, following their defiance of a court order in relation to the pipeline. One in five did not give the men their support, according to the poll.
"Almost four out of five of those polled believe that the whole pipeline development was handled badly by Shell E&P Ireland, while fewer that one in ten believed the company handled the issue well."
