Eugyppius wonders at the irony of a Green Party member's progressive ideals clashing with the reality of mass migration, as a tiny Bavarian village faces a proposed migrant housing facility that would shatter its peace.

(I think it's a good idea for people who post events notices to put up a comment/report on the event....as many folks who would have like to have been at it mightn't have made it and would like to hear how it went!)

The Temple Bar Street Speakers had 3 sessions in the Leviathon Tent at last weekend's Electric Picnic.

Ciaron O'Reilly was solo on Friday night discussing the war and further nonviolent resistance to demilitarise Shannon Airport.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Ross O'Snodaigh spoke about the "Why Don't the Irish Speak their Own Language?", Robbie Synott on wide range of social ills of modern Ireland and Ciaron O'Reilly on Irish Complicity in the war on Iraq and further nonviolent resistance following the acquittal of the Pit Stop Ploughshares. www.peaceontrial.com

The setting did not have the intimacy and the vibe of soapbox speaking, but audience pariticpation (and gratefully their was a lot of it!) was facilitated by a roaming mike. Those who gathered enjoyed it. The Leviathon tent people were happy with it.

Soapbox speaking ran every Sunday for over two years 2003-5 in Temple Bar. JD's move to Hungary and Rossa's move to the country and the lack of other political groups to appreciate its significance and commit to it sees it present reduced to a sporadic occurence.

Free sppech-use it or lose it!
