Daly / Mc Namee Cumann call for white line picket.

West Belfast based Daly/McNamee Cumann of the IRSP have today called for the people of West Belfast to join with them in a white line picket on Saturday 26th August 2006.

IRSP spokesperson for the area, Charlie Clarke said, "Daly / Mc Namee Cumann of the IRSP plan to stage a white line picket on the Falls Road on Saturday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm.

“This is to highlight the current conditions that Republican POW's are facing in Maghaberry gaol as the British continue to criminalise the struggle for national and social liberation.

“We call upon all the residents of West Belfast to join with us in this picket. We have spent the last few months remembering the sacrifices of the ten brave republican volunteers during the hungerstrikes of Long Kesh in 1981, the brutality waged against the prisoners on the blanket and dirty protests and we in the IRSP will oppose any attempts of the British to sully the memory of those men and women.

He went on to add, “People must see this for what it is. It is a continued attempt by the British to criminalise the republican struggle. Whether or not we agree with the tactics being used by the differing Republican traditions, or the fact that we may have different opinions on issues, we must join together to fight this British undermining policy. We recognise the right of Irishmen and women to bear arms against the illegal occupation of this land and it's people by the British imperialist. The struggle for national and social liberation in whatever form is not criminal. It is the right of the working class."

The white line protest will assemble outside Costello House at 2pm and will be staged for one hour.
