Prisoners in Guantanamo on - hunger strike / publicity stunt

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Friday June 02, 2006 04:18author by Seán Ryan Report this post to the editors

89 kidnapped victims are now refusing food in Guantanamo Concentration Camp. 6 are currently being force-fed.

Just in case you didn't know or care

75 illegal detainees in Guantanamo have just spent their first week on hunger strike after showing solidarity with 3 other prisoners who are now routinely force-fed and who began their hunger strike in August of last year.

Some hours ago more joined this cause. There are now 89 hunger strikers. There are 6 of them being force-fed, the American military have confirmed.

The US is terming this action a publicity stunt.

Remember that only 10 have any charges pending. The rest haven’t been charged with anything. Any rational being should recognise this as a crime against humanity without the need for ‘publicity stunts,’ to bring it to our attention.

The force feeding is accomplished via a nasal tube. Should a prisoner attempt to purge what has been forced into him, the prisoner will be restrained in a chair made specifically for the purpose of restraint and the feeding will continue.

Meanwhile back in Iraq, US soldiers are to receive “ethics training,” due to the fact that the Rules of War and the Geneva Conventions aren’t understood or practiced at times.

I believe some ethics training higher up on the food-chain (no pun intended) wouldn’t go amiss.

Methinks the Hague should take responsibility for this training.
