Don't follow the example of Brad Pitt & Robbie Williams!
Upstanding decent folk throughout the english speaking anglo-saxon world have had enough of suffering in silence at the latest assault of Satan on their values. As cable and network TV shows us Mr Brad Pitt's "first tattoo", others' attention and concern is aimed at the NHS (national health service) of Great Britian, where tax-payers are expected to pay for the removal of a tattoo from a navy veteran who is strong word here - transsexual. & Doctors warn on the risks of leprosy and syphilis from piercings.
be careful of those teeth & enamel & the syphilis not to mention the leprosy. From the BBC :- "Tanya Bainbridge, 57, who was born Brian, wants the laser treatment so she can wear sleeveless dresses and tops"..." former sailor who had a sex-change will get her tattoos removed on the NHS because she feels "unladylike"...."Miss Bainbridge lives with her boyfriend, Mark, in Middleton, Greater Manchester. They are both unemployed. A spokesman for Heywood and Middleton Primary Care Trust, http://www.nhs.uk/England/AboutTheNhs/StarRatings/detai...ode=1 which will fund the treatment, said: "We cannot comment at the moment due to data protection." The procedure is believed to cost £2,500. Some women have tattoos on discreet parts of their body - they don't all have pictures of sailing ships and a swallow on their forearms
Miss Bainbridge, who had nine children - from whom she is estranged - by three different women, had a £20,000 sex-change operation on the NHS in 2001 at Charing Cross Hospital in London.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the english speaking anglo-saxon world, doctors and health officials alike worry at the need for regulations and underage piercing .
Australian "peak tattooing group" has called for a ban on "extreme piercing".

Behind all this lurks the spokesman of Satan, Robie Williams who Ireland's RTE reports underwent hypnosis to endure 14 needles being put in his arm.

the 16th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases which met earlier this month, has disclosed that In the USA, Canada, Australia and Northern Europe, between 8 and 13% of the population has tattoos and/or piercings, Jean-Baptiste Guiard-Schmid of the Paris Rothschild Hospital reported during the 16th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ECCMID).

["The main health complications associated with piercing and tattooing include infections, pathologic healing, allergic reactions, tissue damages, bleeding and odonto-stomatologic lesions. Local bacterial infections are rare after tattooing but develop frequently from piercings, although they are usually minor. Between 10 to 20% of piercings are associated with local benign bacterial infection, according to the results of the few available studies on the topic. Typical symptoms of a local bacterial infection are redness, swelling, fever and pain. The main pathogens causing local infections, e.g. suppuration or abscesses, are Staphylococcus aureus, group A streptococcus and Pseudomonas spp. Impetigo has also been identified and is caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. These infections may become chronic and lead to local pyogenic granuloma (also called botryomycoma). Bacterial infections occurring as a result of piercing rarely spread and rarely lead to severe or life-threatening infections. Erysipelas and cellulitis have been observed with S. aureus and S. pyogenes aetiology. Anecdotal case reports of leprosy, tuberculosis, syphilis, chancroid and tetanus have also been published in recent years.
Facinf such global Evildoers we may only wonder at the turn-around in the normality of Salem Wisconsin USA where though community elders had backed the decision of local grade school directors to expel
An eighth-grader (14-year-old Elizabeth Estrada) for a nose piercing and offering to take a civil case against her under Wisonsin law possibly leading to the electric chair. Liberals & Hilary Clinton infitrates took her cause before the Board of Education and won at least a temporary reprieve, not to mention a compliment for her gumption.
"It takes a lot of courage for an adult to stand up for what they believe in," board president Patty Merrill told 14-year-old Elizabeth Estrada "And I think I speak for the entire board by saying that I think we're proud of you."

Given that this man was responsible for banishing thousands of people to live in the desolate regions that are now ruled by desperadoes like Frank Fahey and Seán Ó Neachtain, and for selling many more into slavery in Barbados, I'm not at all surprised that he has been keeping a low profile for the last 350 years.
How's it going, Ollie? Where have you been hiding?
Best,
Coilín.
I've been in Ibiza letting my hair down, and getting the sun on the warts. I thought I'd make my comeback in style for the reptile's 80th birthday.

Could the Editorial team pleaseremove this article which is trying to whip up prejudice and hatred against Trans people.
A quick google search will soon confirm that anti-homophobic organisations worldwide (including Amnesty International) see transphobia as as unnacceptable as homophobia
Could Indymedia please extend its anti-bigotry policy to cover transphobia?
Thanks a million,
Paul McAndrew
yo paul how exactly is this article transphobic?
Transexual people deserve our complete support and ought be able to remove their genitalia and tattoos on our national health services or if you look at it the other way add genitals but still remove tattoos. You've now an excellent opportunity to lobby the irish government not only for hospital beds in general, but also for assistance with sex-change ops. As I'm sure you're aware the first Irish trans-sexual operation was paid for by the then man in question by a nifty combination of a series of "how I'm doing now" tabloid newspaper feature articles in the 90s and of course spotting for a model agency. & a respected woman Rossie is, but very poor taste in the pretty of either male or female variety as our small fashion magazines available in the period proved. Whereas most europeans males or females who have found themselves to be incarnated in the wrong type of body, must rely on more mundane and sometimes dangerous types of precarious employment; often in the sex trade. & thats an issue for you to explore Paul = please do!
Cromwell says -
Love People regardless of their bits!
You're not getting out of Drogheda with your head!
All power to the commons!
If it has erectile tissue - spike it! { unless you need it to make new "other erectile bits" :-) }
I suspect you're just an uppity catholic
Transexual people can often find it hard to get mainstream employment because of bigotry, and yes many transexual women do end up having to work in the dangerous, badly paid and usually un-unionized sex industry.
One woman died in Ireland less than a decade ago because she was left half-way through transition for years, on dangerous male-hormone suppressing drugs, with no funding for the operation, which would have removed he need for them.
Many transexual people have committed suicide because they were refused treatment,
- and many have been murdered because of prejudice.
Oh and until the last five or so years the one place you would think Trans people would get support- the Queer/ LGB movement rejected them. Two years ago I was at a debate about adding the T to UCC LGB, and a respected, prominent member of that society said publicly that "we might as well let pedofiles in as let Transgendered people in"
Hilarious, isn't it?
Would you have "playfully" quoted chunks of a racist article without clearly challenging the prejudice in them?
"Silly" as in foolish and trivial?
Transexual people should have the right to appropriate medical treatment , just like everyone else.
Oh and that's "Uppity Pagan" to you.
you have things to say Paul. they ought not be put in comments below an article on tattoos & piercings of which trans-sexuality only played a minor part...
goto the main page. http://indymedia.ie
click "publish" & write your article!
we're not a family site, don't worry about shocking people with your material. Your concerns are valid and if you go to the link attached to the element of the text above which you seem to have interpreted as being "anti-transexual" http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-1200.html you'll be able to track back to http://www.pinknews.co.uk and find archives to source your article.
I look forward to reading what you have to say.
....maybe transphobic rantings shouldn't be part of an article on piercing.
the place for challenging the kind of crap which perpetuates intolerant bigoted attitudes...is where ever those attitudes are spouted
"where tax-payers are expected to pay for the removal of a tattoo from a navy veteran who is strong word here - transexual"
"Miss Bainbridge, who had nine ######## - from whom she is estranged - by three different women, had a £20,000 sex-change operation on the NHS in 2001 at Charing Cross Hospital in London."
.."They are both unemployed"
this is a press attack on this woman's personal life, purely because she is tran-sexual
Indymedia should not be further spreading gutter press invasive bigotry like this
I am shocked that my quotations from Pink News and the BBC may be construed by you as fanning hatred of trans-sexuals. In my experience, trans-sexuals have a very developed sense of humour, which helps them get through what is a very long journey of self-realisation. I repeat my hope that you write an article on the issues. & I also point out to you any other readers, that the majority of the text above relates to perceived and rumoured risks associated with tattoo and piercings and a look at anglo-saxon social attitudes to same. It was not meant to be an article solely about trans-sexuals, I am very surprised that you could be so discouraging to a new contributor like myself, and quite honestly I'll think again before contributing another article or even passing comment on others.

& that I suppose will be final words. Au revoir! indymedia ireland. I am cut to the quick, and must now return to the Hellish grave, the mere utterence of my name still keeps warm. Sorry about Drogheda, and stabling the horses in St Pat's.
Tonight's "craic" section on the RTE news website tells the story of Mandi Hamlin, a 37-year-old graphic artist from Dallas, said: 'It was just total humiliation in front of people I had no earthly idea who they were.' Gloria Allred, Ms Hamlin's attorney, said the woman was given a pair of pliers in order to remove the rings in her nipples. She added that the rings had been in her nipples for many years.
Ms Hamlin said she wanted a public apology and for the US Transportation Security Administration to investigate the incident, which happened in February as she was boarding a flight from Lubbock in Texas, to Dallas.
the people who do the RTE news site put that story under "craic". Fun like. Hee hee stuff. Being forced to rip a ring out of your nipple with a pliers is not generally considered funny even if it is between two consenting adults - which it wasn't. All the same this might go on this thread since it dealt with piercings.
