Boycott Coke Stall GPO

category dublin | worker & community struggles and protests | news report author Saturday March 11, 2006 16:55author by Boycott Killer Coke Report this post to the editors

There was an excellent response to the boycott coke stall on Saturday outside the GPO with a large amount of interest from passers by and the general public.
Boycott Killer Coke
Boycott Killer Coke

The new boycottt killer coke banner brought lots of extra attention to the campaign. The international movement to make coke accountable for its crimes against Colombian trade unionists is growing in momentum with a vote taking place in the next few weeks in the UK that could lead to the cancelling of exclusive Coke contracts with well over 200 universities all affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS).

Further actions are planned in Ireland to expose Cok'es Crimes in Colombia.

I counted 5 people, 5 people active around the stall and you want to bring extra attention to the fact that this is all you can count on for support. And there being a vote in the UK on this issue, what are ye planing for the local situation or do you have to wait for guidance from across the water?

The banner is lovely though. Bright red, I wonder how many people popped in somewhere for a coke after the subliminal prompt for it?

You counted 5 people at the Killer Coke demo? Funny I counted zero peole supporting peoples right to rot their teeth and support right wing anti union death squads, so that makes it 5-0

"And there being a vote in the UK on this issue, what are ye planing for the local situation or do you have to wait for guidance from across the water?"

Do you have a problem understanding the word "momentum"? There have already been votes in Ireland, the "UK" is playing catch up.

Actually, your problem is that the vast majority couldn't give one hoot not to mind two. So, that result might read better as

Killer Coke - 5
Couldn't care less 3,956,457
See no reason to give you crediblity by opposing you - 0

If I had you gave me your credibility I'd be very worried - you're claiming that only people on the stall are the ones who support the campaign - that is the logic of a wingnut - you must be a very lonely person

The original comment about there being only 5 was that it was indicative of there not being much support, not that only 5 supported it. In all fairness, you should be applying the WingNut logic prize to the person who believed that because there was no counter demo that meant a 5-0 win to killer-coke.

You should read what you wrote earlier before making a wingnut of yourself again;

"I counted 5 people, 5 people active around the stall and you want to bring extra attention to the fact that this is all you can count on for support."

There was 8 people involved in the stall - only five of them perhaps can be seen in the photos - so what?

Doing a stall with eight people is quite good - I've often done them with as little as two people. We were also by far the largest of several stalls being run outside the GPO last Saturday but you know it isn't a competition and this doesn't take away from the stalls and paper distribution done by WSM and Connolly Youth who had far smaller numbers involved.

It's good to know that our activities are annoying those who support Coke and their human rights abuses.

I was'nt at the stall on Saturday or any other day for that matter also I am not a part of any Boycott Coke group. But guess what I boycott Coca-Cola and have done for more than a Year now. There are also a lot more people like me not part of any groups but choose to Boycott Coke. So you saying that Five people or a small Minority is involved in the Boycott Coke campaign is Wrong..
On a related issue is there anything being done to try and get the G.A.A to Boycott Coke and ban it from Croke Park??

"I counted 5 people, 5 people active around the stall and you want to bring extra attention to the fact that this is all you can count on for support."

Were there perhaps 8 people? Who knows, it's not like I was going to stake the place out. People who work have shopping to do on Saturdays.

And I think you can see from the other comments that you have more people than those happy few at the stall who are inclined or interested or participating in their own personal boycotts of Coke's product. I was simply referring to the numbers active around the stall as indicative of your core support and wider support. The Pro-Life folks often have more people around the GPO handing out those photos, are you claiming they have more support than you do?

If you want to spend your day parsing through each sentence every person posts to find some fatal flaw, feel free.
