news report

About twenty people last night gathered outside Dunnes Stores in Patrick Street Cok to protest in support of Joanne Delaney who was sacked for wearing a union badge. Members of Labour Youth together with local activists, Labour Councillors and Kathleen Lynch T.D. and members of the ICTU Youth Committee supported the protest. Several members of the public and passers by also joined in the protest. Protests are planned this weekend outside the Ashleaf in Crumlin so if you have a spare while come along and show your support! |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4Are the ICTU supposed to be non-party political? If so why do they only participate in Labour organised events. or was this and ICTU youth event to which only Labour Youth were invited.
Surely ICTU should play a role in working with all parties of the left not just one???
Well done to all who are supporting Joanne. From Dublin,Derry,Belfast and now Cork the protests are spreading.
Just to clarify this weekends information pickets at the Ashleaf as posted in the events notices and referred to above are been organised by the Joanne Delaney Support Group.and all who support Joanne are encouraged to attend.
The Support Group has a broad base and is comprised of Joanne herself, members of her family, local residents,Mandate, trade unionists, and individual members of various political groups including CWAG,WP,SP,SWP,ISN,SFand LY.

i agree with jim, ictu should turn up at events organised by other left groups as well and i'm sure they do. especially if they are invited. groups on the left should invite representatives from ictu youth to their youth events and representatives from the ictu womens committee to womens events.
many moons ago when i was secretary of ictu youth i even attended wp youth conferences on behalf of ictu (my politics were a bit different back i those days).

Friends,
I can say strongly that no members of ICTU youth were present at this event. The people invloved were all Labour activists. I know this because i called the protest in cork that evening and am standing on the right of the Photo.
Wether ICTU youht committee are non-political or not though i would be happy to hsve them attend any event i am involved with. We should not exclude ourselves from show's of strength because of petty politics when there are greater causes to be fighting!
Cheers,
