I am calling a demonstration outside the GNIB, Burgh Quay, Dublin 16th Feb for 1.30pm to protest the deportation of Dublin School Boy Olunkunle Eluhanle to Nigeria.
Many in Dublin have to present themselves for deportation in Dublin and now it's Olunkunle Eluhanle from Nigeria's turn for the cattle truck and coffin ship back to Africa, a corrupt unsafe country and many who are forced back face political and religious persecution. He's been ordered to report to the Garda Nation Immigration Bureau so his papers can be stamped and he is to be taken, maybe even in handcuffs, to Dublin Airport immediately afterwards
Olunkunle Eluhanle had the temerity to challegne Michael McDowell's racist state policies by living his life as any young person would do. The excuse is offered that he has a minor traffic offence in a country where less than 25% of drunk driving charges result in a conviction. This is McDowell's Kristalnacht for all Nigerian immigrants. We must face down this setup.
Please come out and show solidarity and stop this condemnation of Olunkunle to a life of misery from going ahead.
Let Olunkunle Eluhanle from Nigeria Stay in Ireland
Such an hysterical comment comparing the deportation of one individual to the event that began the holocaust of European Jews is infantile.
Forget the semantics of who called what, when. Deal with the issue at hand - that Kunle is being deported - where in Irish law does it say you can be deported for a traffic offence? When applying for Irish citizenship you have to declare any convictions - but it's been proven that a traffic offence is NOT a reason to deny citizenship - so why is it a reason for deportation?
Only Irish citizens with current driving licences can be awarded penalty points - so it wouldn't appear on his record.
The reason Kunle is being deported is 'cos he rubbed Mickey McD's nose in his own policies, won the hearts of ordinary people, and because he is BLACK.
Ireland could be deporting the next Phil Lynnott, Sentata O'Halpin, Kevin Sharkey, or Paul McGrath. Even if he's not destined for such public fame, he has a right to contribute to Irish society in his own way. It's a disgrace. Kunle should be awarded Irish Citizenship immediately....
Given that asylum was given to a Jamacian drug smuggler - the application was made WHILE SHE WAS IN MOUNTJOY JAIL, I fail to see how driving a banger around Killiney without the proper document should mean you are deported.
If Kunle is deported and becomes a great soccer player for Nigeria who the wallop the bollix off Ireland in the next world cup, then you'll really have something to cry into your breakfast roll, wontcha?
Kunle should be allowed stay, go to University, and be an Irish citizen. Allowed to stay and do the leaving cert - only? Big Swinging Mickey McDowell....
So he has broken a law. Does this deem he must be deported? How many Irish people drive around without insurance etc?
I certainly do not condone this action but does it metit deportation?
This is another example of M McDowell bully boy behaviour. Such an over-the-top action to take for a minor offence. When will this Minister, who resides under the title of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, learn what those terms mean and grow up. He is not as smart or intelligent as he would like us to believe
This is a total disgrace. Kunle is being discriminated because he is black. The latest time he was deported he was chucked out of the plane onto the streets of Lagos in his school uniform for god's sake. He should be allowed stay. There is already provision in the Irish education system for them to have their university education paid for free, so money is no object. he has shown he is witty, candid, and ready to learn and he part of our society. he's a lovable rogue who deserves Irish citizenship immediately.
Kunle won't be going anywhere cos his girlfriend and he had a child last week. Congrats!
Just remember to get a baby seat for the car, son.
...then well done Kunle. You little rascal! No deportation should go ahead now on humanitarian grounds.
One cannot help but be impressed by the course of events the particular case of Kuhnle has taken thus far.
But surely at the same time it begs the question in many people’s minds “Is this really what The Geneva Convention was designed for?”
Was it indeed intended as a ploy with which to cheat, challenge or frustrate any attempts by National Governments to control immigration flows into their countries?
The rising levels of Asylum abuse, an activity which has been seized upon equally by human traffickers, has resulted directly in a steady tightening of the interpretation of the Geneva Convention with more formidable counter measures being implemented by Govts. around the globe.
The ultimate victims will be genuine refugees, who may factually be fleeing for their very lives from persecution, rather than simply for economic reasons, but who, as a consequence of the current levels of asylum abuse will be met with even deeper levels of cynicism, more and more, stringent controls confronting them at National borders.
This failed asylum seeker and convicted criminal who has been afforded significant legal and educational resources by the Irish people will be returning home to Nigeria because it is the overwhelming wish of Irish people that asylum abusers be deported.
McDowell has once (in a serious lapse of judgement) bent the rules for this person. He would be making a serious mistake if he were to ignore the will of the Irish people again.
"COnvicted Criminal"? Convicted of what crime? being black?
Facts, GG.
This man is a failed asylum-seeker who has been convicted for an offence for which people are frequently sent to prison by the Irish courts.
McDowell is perfectly aware that it just would not be acceptable to the vast majority of Irish people to allow someone who has so abused the compassion already extended to him to be allowed stay. It would be a mockery and an insult to law-abiding immigrants (the vast majority of whom come here legally and observe our laws).
This man is not being deported because of his colour. He will be deported because he tried and failed to cheat the asylum process and because he didn't have the common sense and respect to obey our laws. His remaining here is not conducive to the common good.
