Free Percy Podger- Ireland's Anti-Road Resister!

category kildare | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday January 31, 2006 23:18author by The Good Shepherd Report this post to the editors

The Message is in the Entrails!

Percy Podger prsently imprisoned for 90 days for nonviolent anti-roads direct action!

CURRAGH farmer Percy Podger is planning to go on hunger strike in Mountjoy Prison - to help protect his sheep. Mr Podger (46), from Frenchfurze, was jailed on Sunday for refusing to pay court expenses of €850 from a case that originated with him hanging the entrails of a dead sheep from a road sign in 2004.

He is refusing to pay the expenses until a plan to install sheep grids and traffic-calming measures on the Curragh is put in place. If the expenses are not paid, he will serve a 90-day term, and he is also planning to go on hunger strike.

But Kildare County Council said yesterday (Tuesday) that the measures would cost at least •1m and that they would not be able to fund such work. Sean English, director of the Friends of the Curragh Environment Ltd, said there was “no way” the work would cost so much.

Percy is presently in jail serving 90 days. The above action was preceeded by Percy dumping the roadkill carcaas of one of his sheep on a bureaucrats desk in Kildare.

I was amazed when I heard this story. I have referred to my 'podger' as 'percy' for many years now, so forgive me if think that perhaps someone is pulling our collective legs here.

rdsmassive, if your particular 'Percy' Podger was locked up in jail for 90 days I imagine (tho' I don't know for sure...) that you would notice. Perhaps that would explain the 'pulling' sensation you feel on your leg. However, the Mr. Podger in question does exist and is a member (no pun intended) of Friends Of The Curragh Environment.

"Farmer loses appeal on Curragh redevelopment plan: A Kildare sheep farmer - who was jailed this month following a protest calling for "appropriate measures" to prevent traffic accidents involving sheep on the Curragh - has lost his bid to halt the redevelopment of the Curragh racecourse.

Percy Podger got a 90-day sentence for refusing to pay costs following a conviction for a public order offence handed down in Naas District Court in 2003. The conviction followed an incident where he put the remains of a sheep on a speed sign in protest over what he regarded as the local authority's failure to put in place safeguards, like cattle grids and speed limits."

Percy and Barbara were very quick to take court proceedings against myself and my family to the tune of €1,400 for work that they claimed that they did on our behalf in relation to planning.

The only written documents we got from the pair was bills, threatening letters sent via registered mail and a ordinary civil summons received by us in time for Christmas week 2005.

We were contacted via the internet by Percy when we put up a general plea back in 2004. We arranged to meet Percy in Roscrae in Feb 2005 to discuss a judicial review. Barbara was there we had never met her before. After the meeting we as a family decided that we would never win and called to cancel any further dealings with Percy.

Barbara was introduced as his associate and yet we got billed by her for that consultation in Roscrae and another in a roadside diner in Urlingford. The pair coerced us in Urlingford for over 2 hours to continue with our proceedings, we did at a futher cost of €1,800 for a useless hydrology report paid to a third party sourced of course by the pair.

The story goes on and on. But rather than try and fight these two cunning people in the district court WE JUST PAID UP LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE DO - percy got €650 and barbara €750..

SO I DO NOT WISH PERCY WELL IN PRISON, IN FACT HE SHOULD BEAR THIS IN MIND THAT --
"IN LIFE IT OFTEN A CASE OF WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND".....................
