offsite link Dictator Trump? That?s Just Silly Wed Feb 26, 2025 19:05 | Dr James Allan
Calling Trump a dictator is just silly, says Prof James Allan. Yes, he's bombastic. But he's been elected to secure the border and drain the swamp. And he is the President, in whom all executive authority resides.

Film showing at 3pm

category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Friday January 13, 2006 15:17author by Clare - Seomra Spraoi Report this post to the editors

Not a documentary...

There will be two films shown in Seomra Spraoi in 47 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin on Saturday 14th at 3pm.

We'll have the projector so there'll be plenty of room. Wear warmish clothes.

I've forgotten the title of the first film but it is about Polish prisoners during World War 2. Supposed to be very good. I'll update this when I get more details. Secondly, if there's time we'll watch the Life of Brian.

Everyone welcome.

The first film at 3pm might be Kanal. I think I was wrong in the original post, its not about prisoners but it is about Poland during WW2. Here is a review:

Kanal
The setting for the second film in Wajda's trilogy about WWII (coming between A Generation and Ashes and Diamonds) is the sewers of Warsaw, through which a group of partisans attempt to make their escape from the Nazis during the 1944 Uprising. This was the film that made Wajda's name in the West, and it certainly has a unique intensity and gloom, with most of the characters enduring appalling fates: two lovers reach an exit to find it sealed off with a grill, another man surfaces right into German hands. Nevertheless, scenes such as the musician playing Chopin amid the ruins have a peculiar poetry that speaks of an experience that demands to be reinvented.
(well it will be this or something else it there is a problem in tracking it down...)

And remember the second film will be slightly more light hearted!

I don't know how this ended up on the events calender twice. I only posted it once.... I think...
