In the last few years, the Simon Community has professionalised at the expense of many volunteers.

Coincidentally, this happened at a time when state subvention to Simon Community has grown to 80% of its budget and "care" for the homeless has been outsourced to the likes of Simon.

The state controls this sector by making it dependent and impotent. At the same time, Simon Community is about private charity rather than publically owned services, despite token representation of homeless within its ranks.

Simon are part of the status quo problem and it is not in its financial interest to find long-term solutions to homelessness and housing crisis.

Money for what next - the poor rubbish-collectors, street-lighting maintenance?

That homelessness in Dublin has become an industry, so much so that we have an agency for the management of homelessness.

Will the homeless be welcome to attend this event or is it restricted to those who make their living from the perpetuation of a failed system?

The Table Quiz in Conways last Wednesday raised €940 for Simon.

All the tables were full and their was plenty of craic and prizes.

And for the begrudgers (of the last two comments above) there was even a team called 'Why Not Go Climb A Real Mountain, Like Everest?'

Not enough organisations post follow-ups to their event notices.
