2pm, Saturday 22nd Oct. Meet at the Greenstar Dump Site, Killaghmore, Killconnell, Co Galway.

If you want to find out more about the Greenstar / Celtic Waste Saga, the history of the development and the campaign against it, please come to Killconnell next Saturday to meet local anti-dump campaigners including Brendan Kelly (recently in Indymedia news, click on link below for more info) and other members of the anti-dump committee.

Local campaigners will take us on a walking tour of the site area including the threatened and already damaged native Oak and Hazel Woodland, explaining the environmental significance of the site, the woodland, the habitats, the bog, the children's burial ground and the aquifer, a subterranean reservoir and natural source of clean water for drink wells and springs.

Greenstar have been given permission to build a mountain of rubbish above the aquifer in spite of European law making such development illegal. The consultation process provided by Local Agenda 21 and the Aarhus convention has been non existent resulting in local people's rights to have an input into such decision making being ignored. Greenstar have refused to guarantee that 'leachate' from the dump will not pollute the aquifer.

BY CAR:
From Ballinasloe, take the Athenry Road and follow signs for New Inn until you see signs for Killconnell. Dump site unmissable on the left after Killconnell.

From Loughrea, follow signs for New Inn & Mount Bellew, then follow signs for Bullaun till you see signs for Killconnell. Dumpsite unmissable on the right before Killconnell.

BY TRAIN: No buses.
Nearest train station: WOODLAWN, 2 miles from dump site.

FROM DUBLIN, DEPART Dublin Heuston 11.20am, ARRIVE Woodlawn 13.29 pm.

FROM LIMERICK, DEPART Limerick 9.20am, ARRIVE Woodlawn 13.29pm.
